[...] My favourite has to be Two Wheel Trauma. In a short post, Emma conveys the tears and the triumph of her daughter’s efforts to ride her new bike, a bike “much, much bigger than her old one.” There is a genuinely moving moment of “trauma” which most parents will identify with, but I’ll let you find it out for yourself. What I particularly loved was the laugh-out-loud crazy-moment when a mother, clearly at an extreme of what-the-heck-can-I-do, shouts, “Use your core!” as encouragement to her daughter. The wonderful irony is that, ultimately, that is how her daughter learns how to ride. It’s just a great read! [...]

Rory, I think my parental enthusiasm may bring me undone in many future pursuits - but at least I can say I had the best of intentions!

This was a great read.

I love that the "trauma" was mostly yours - I don't mean that to sound sadistic, but it really conveyed the stress a parent can go through just as much as a child. I love the thought of you shouting "use your core." That was so good - plus the fact that ultimately that is how she learnt to ride her bike. So, good advice!

And it was so moving when she apologises for not learning faster - that moment when a parent realises they have been just a little bit more enthusiastic than they meant to be.

Brilliant!
